"content_html": "<p>Owncast <a href=\"https://owncast.online/releases/owncast-0.3.0/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"\">v0.3.0</a> has been released, and you can now do way more with your Owncast server than ever before.</p>\n<p>This version of Owncast introduces plugin support, allowing you to extend, improve, customize, and implement those crazy ideas you wish you could have before.</p>\n<h2 class=\"anchor anchorTargetStickyNavbar_Vzrq\" id=\"whats-the-catch\">What's the catch?<a href=\"https://owncast.online/news/20260904-owncast-plugins/#whats-the-catch\" class=\"hash-link\" aria-label=\"Direct link to What's the catch?\" title=\"Direct link to What's the catch?\" translate=\"no\"></a></h2>\n<p>Easy, plugins only exist if <em>you</em>, the Owncast users, build them.</p>\n<p>The tools now exist for you to build things like chatbots, stream overlays, custom notifications, authentication and way more. But it's up to the community to create and share these plugins or there will be no functionality for you to take advantage of.</p>\n<h2 class=\"anchor anchorTargetStickyNavbar_Vzrq\" id=\"what-does-this-mean\">What does this mean?<a href=\"https://owncast.online/news/20260904-owncast-plugins/#what-does-this-mean\" class=\"hash-link\" aria-label=\"Direct link to What does this mean?\" title=\"Direct link to What does this mean?\" translate=\"no\"></a></h2>\n<p>With the release of this version there are almost zero useful plugins available. This means that while the potential is huge, the ecosystem is still in its infancy and relies heavily on community contributions.</p>\n<p>So it's up to the community to jump in and fill those gaps. I've created some things to hopefully make that easier.</p>\n<h2 class=\"anchor anchorTargetStickyNavbar_Vzrq\" id=\"resources-to-get-started\">Resources to get started<a href=\"https://owncast.online/news/20260904-owncast-plugins/#resources-to-get-started\" class=\"hash-link\" aria-label=\"Direct link to Resources to get started\" title=\"Direct link to Resources to get started\" translate=\"no\"></a></h2>\n<h3 class=\"anchor anchorTargetStickyNavbar_Vzrq\" id=\"ideas-and-suggestions\">Ideas and suggestions<a href=\"https://owncast.online/news/20260904-owncast-plugins/#ideas-and-suggestions\" class=\"hash-link\" aria-label=\"Direct link to Ideas and suggestions\" title=\"Direct link to Ideas and suggestions\" translate=\"no\"></a></h3>\n<p>I know what you're saying right now, because it's what everyone tells me when I mention <a href=\"https://owncast.online/contribute/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"\">contributing to Owncast</a> in any way: \"I wish I could, but I'm not a developer\".</p>\n<p>That's fine, <strong>as always</strong>. There are many ways to take part in the Owncast project. And in this case,if you're a <strong>user</strong> of Owncast, i'd like you to still be involved with plugins. So if you have ideas for a plugin that you think would be useful to others post it to the <a href=\"https://github.com/owncast/owncast/discussions/categories/plugin-ideas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"\">Plugin ideas</a> discussion forum. And if you're a developer who's looking to build something, but doesn't have any ideas that people would find useful, check out the discussions there to see what people are requesting or talking about.</p>\n<h3 class=\"anchor anchorTargetStickyNavbar_Vzrq\" id=\"building-plugins\">Building plugins<a href=\"https://owncast.online/news/20260904-owncast-plugins/#building-plugins\" class=\"hash-link\" aria-label=\"Direct link to Building plugins\" title=\"Direct link to Building plugins\" translate=\"no\"></a></h3>\n<p>If you're interested in building plugins for Owncast, check out the <a href=\"https://owncast.online/docs/plugins/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"\">plugin development documentation</a> to get started. It will point you in the right direction.</p>\n<p>There are SDKs for <a href=\"https://owncast.online/docs/plugins/quickstart/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"\">Python and JavaScript</a> to help you get started quickly with building your plugin. There is a bunch of <a href=\"https://github.com/owncast/plugin-sdk/tree/main/examples\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"\">example code</a> as well, which you can use as a reference or starting point for your own plugins.</p>\n<p>If you have questions, concerns, or just want to talk with other plugin developers, there's a new discussion forum at <a href=\"https://github.com/owncast/owncast/discussions/categories/plugin-support\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"\">Plugin Support</a> so there's a place where these discussions can happen.</p>\n<h2 class=\"anchor anchorTargetStickyNavbar_Vzrq\" id=\"lets-chat\">Let's chat<a href=\"https://owncast.online/news/20260904-owncast-plugins/#lets-chat\" class=\"hash-link\" aria-label=\"Direct link to Let's chat\" title=\"Direct link to Let's chat\" translate=\"no\"></a></h2>\n<p>You can join the conversation and ask questions in our <a href=\"https://owncast.online/chat?tab=community\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"\">chat</a> or reach out directly to the community through the <a href=\"https://github.com/owncast/owncast/discussions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"\">discussion forums</a>. I want to hear from users and developers alike, and this is the best way to get involved and stay updated on the latest plugin developments.</p>\n<p>I'm super pumped for this new chapter of Owncast, but its success will heavily be in <strong>your</strong> hands.</p>",
